Job Description: 

Healthy LifeStars, a growing, non-profit organization dedicated to fighting childhood obesity, is looking to continue our expansion in the Colorado market. We are looking to fill a full-time, contract position based in Denver, to provide hands-on support in our efforts to continue to increase awareness and establish a solid network of both individual and corporate donor support in our expansion effort.

The Colorado Division Director will lead all activities and events planned in our continued expansion into the Colorado market, including managing the Colorado Advisory Board, continuing to develop and maintain corporate sponsorship partners and leading the Colorado-specific fundraising events designed to raise awareness and create ongoing support for HLS’ mission and goals. With broad direction from the Executive Director of Healthy LifeStars (based in Phoenix), this part-time role will focus on continuing to develop this key market as well as the successful planning, management and operation of activities and events in support of HLS’ continued expansion into the Colorado market. With broad direction from the Executive for Programs of Healthy LifeStars (based in Phoenix), this role will also assist with program implementation and fostering new program partner site relationships.

This position, an independent contractor working 40 hours/week from the contractor’s home office, will help to develop and complete objectives for the overall effectiveness and execution of events, such as quarterly Colorado Advisory Board meetings, community outreach, fundraising events and donor and community-related outreach and events. The Division Director will help manage and implement projects and marketing plans intended to maximize HLS’ exposure and work independently to complete plans and deliverables on budget and according to the timeframes established by HLS.

Areas of Responsibility

Principal Accountabilities Include:

  • Leads and supports the Colorado Advisory Board with their "friendraiser" and other awareness-building activities
  • Conducts outreach to potential corporate partners to relay our mission and vision and continues to establish and maintain an ongoing network of corporate support
  • Acts as primary liaison with all Colorado-based partners, donors and advisors associated with this geographic expansion project.
  • Assists with ensuring the integrity of The LifeStar ChallengeTM program by conducting site visits, offering suggestions for improvement and working closely with the Executive for Programs.
  • Issues monthly reports, supports budget reconciliation, processes invoices
  • Regularly communicates event / program status to HLS and identifies risks to address.
  • Organizes and attends The LifeStar ChallengeTM site visits, engages invitees and follows-up to create a network of “friends” and potential donors
  • Lead the Colorado base of donors and supporters for the Step Up 4 Kids fundraising activities (Walkathon and Celebration)

Other Responsibilities may Include:

  • Leads ad hoc projects and/or support key organizational projects that include assisting with planning, scheduling and managing internal meetings or conferences, events, community events, etc.
  • Works with internal/external resources to obtain needed materials and services.
  • Negotiates contracts and manages relationships with outside vendors.
  • Conducts venue site visits, reviews viable options and recommends venue location for fundraising activities.
  • Manages event logistics including pre-event, on-site and post-event activities.
  • Proposes budgets and forecasts, and compiles summaries of total event costs, customer profiles, etc.
  • Maintains HLS presence on Colorado Gives; updates profile and eligibility requirements yearly
  • Assists with grant writing to support program expansion in Denver and, eventually, throughout Colorado
  • Role requires ability to work independently with minimal direction.

  • Must be comfortable representing HLS in fundraising activities. Experience with successful fundraising required.
  • Must be comfortable reaching out to existing corporate relationships within the Colorado business community
  • Must demonstrate highly collaborative approach in working with teams and cross-organizational colleagues.
  • Experience in project management with ability to handle multiple projects and tasks
  • High attention to detail and excellent follow-up and planning skills. Must be able to understand, handle and schedule multiple priorities.

  • Position requires expert proficiency in the operation of PC and related software, competent with PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Associates degree or equivalent experience required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
