What you’ll be doing...

As a Technical Lead, your position is to provide technical leadership for software engineering components and project teams that support MapQuests business initiatives. The Technical Lead is responsible for successfully executing all aspects of the overall software development lifecycle and ensuring the on-time, quality delivery of the organizations software products.

The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, self-directed, self-motivated, with a strong capacity for working successfully and flexibly with members across the organization. Someone who can bring complex ideas and energy to a team while tackling complex challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of the development pipeline and delivery of the organizations software products
  • Guide software engineering teams efforts towards successful project delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership to software engineers responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining the product
  • Architect and design systems that reflect business requirements and adapt these for specific requirements
  • Provide hands-on development and mentoring as necessary for other members of the development team
  • Ensure that code adheres to defined standards and best practices for performance, scalability and quality
  • Design, build and support APIs and REST-based web services that are exposed to other internal teams
  • Practice Agile development methods and exemplifies core Agile values of transparency, collaboration, acceptance of change and iterative development
  • Routinely delivers working software solutions that meet user story acceptance criteria
  • Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team
  • Collaborate with other tech leads and principals across the organization

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent work experience
  • 6 + years software development experience

Even better if you have

  • Proficiency in Computer Science fundamentals object oriented design, data structures, services architecture, algorithms, problem solving, and complexity analysis
  • Experience programming in Java or Scala
  • Solid data modeling/processing experience
  • API design experience
  • Experience working within Agile software engineering methodologies
  • Knowledge of AWS cloud technologies is preferred
  • Strong communications skills, customer service and team-oriented mindset
  • High energy with a positive attitude

Qualifications

Must have

  • Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including Java and/or related languages.

Ideally you have

  • 10+ years of experience leading large-scale projects.
  • 10+ years of experience in networking, multi-threaded applications, inter-process communication, and complex software development.
  • Significant experience in building high-performance, highly-available and scalable distributed systems.
  • Experience designing, building and managing Internet-scale APIs
  • Experience mentoring and growing software engineers
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies quickly.
