Network Engineer Job Responsibilities:
Establishes and maintains network performance by building net configurations and connections; troubleshooting network problems.
Network Engineer Job Duties:
:Establishes networking environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
:Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization.
:Secures network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access.
:Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
:Reporting network operational status by gathering, prioritizing information, and managing projects.
:The design and implementation of new solutions and improving resilience of the current environment.
:Undertaking data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments, using information from multiple sources.
:Deep understanding of Firewall policy as it relates to IT security policy. Collaborate with IT security.
:The design of routing and switching environments.
:In depth understanding of IP voice services and QoS policies.
:Remote troubleshooting and fault finding if issues occur upon initial installation.
:Capacity management and audit of IP addressing and hosted devices within data centers.
:Interface with project management teams, third:line engineers and service desk engineers on a regular basis.
Network Engineer Skills and Qualifications:
:Proven hands:on network engineering experience
:CCNP or higher (CCIE and/or CISSP highly valued)
:Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g. IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS, G.8032, EIGRP)
:Solid understanding for the OSI or TCP/IP model
:Hands on experience with monitoring, network diagnostics, and network analytics tools.
:LAN/WAN Knowledge, Proxy Servers, Networking Knowledge, Network Design and Implementation, Network Troubleshooting, Network Hardware Configuration, Network Performance Tuning.
:Has the ability work independently with little supervision.
:Deep understanding of Network Transport Services such as MPLS, DWDM, SONET, Metro Ethernet.
