Heritage African Drum & Dance Ensemble (HADD) celebrates 10 years of service and cultural arts education at its fall concert:

“Soboninkun: Dance After the Harvest”

to be held November 28, 2009 , 7:00pm at Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theater (119 Park Ave West) in Denver. The concert will bring together a rich tapestry expressed through African song, music and dance.
This 20-member ensemble, composed of professional artists, children, and art enthusiasts, is a jewel of the Rocky Mountains. Join them as they launch into their second decade with an electrifying presentation of traditional dance, drum, and music from mother African. You’re sure to be moved and inspired by the movement of the dancers and rhythms of the drum!

In 2000, Heritage African Drum and Dance was co-founded by Carmen Toure Lorenzo, Artistic Director and Stephan Griffin, Music Director, through the creation of African dance classes to promote health and cultural awareness of residents within an apartment complex, named the Heritage Estates. After some months, the class was invited to perform at the Denver Black Arts Festival, and has been performing ever since, including performances for the Rocky Mountain Mutual Housing Gala at Invesco Field, Stapleton Foundation Health Summit, Denver Botanic Gardens and the Denver Zoo, universities and schools across the region.
The ensemble’s mission is to provide a vehicle in which people can connect with and preserve their ‘heritage’ through the culture of African drum, dance, and song.

Terri Bell - "Composite - new work"

I am interested in challenging preconceptions about photography through the creative post-production of photographic images. I also use my photos and photographic segments in digital collage and mixed media works. The process can then be taken in a number of directions: for instance, rephotographing the resulting works and using those to create entirely new pieces; or assembling smaller works as transitional "metaworks" -- thus moving ever further from any photographic essence into new areas of post-production. I fragment photographic images, then recombine them with other media to create unique statements. The resulting pieces are neither figurative nor abstract, but contain elements of both. The present series, "composite," includes mixed media/collage works, as well as framed prints.

Melissa Rackliff - "GestureLove"

This body of small works, GestureLove, is a bit of a departure from previous larger pieces. The focus here is the initial gestures themselves rather than the refinement of those gestures.

Previously my initial gestures were simply a foundation for the layers of color & texture to come, instead in this body I wanted to enhance the visual impact of the original gestures with translucent layers of pigment & spots of texture allowing the intrinsic energy to translate directly to the viewer primarily unchanged.

Of particular interest to me is the impact a single, simple gesture can communicate. How a line seen translates in the mind as the memory of some body language or sound; and how each viewer is affected differently depending on what they carry, what they have seen and lived.

These creations are in part a journey down a path back to my years as a dancer. Dance is fleeting. Movements made remain in the space & time in which we create them. In performance you can add light, color & texture to enhance the viewers experience, but the dance itself is bound by the dancer's passage through time and space & cannot be refined or changed once the motion is complete. This truthfulness; this fleeting sensation is what I hope to bring to the viewer with these works.

Katie Hoffman - "Lullabies for Lunatics"

Katie Hoffman's recent paintings take their subject matter from her preoccupation with metaphor, symbolism, and what lays beneath the surface of consciousness. Built up with tissue-thin layer upon layer of oil paint in a largely intuitive manner, the finished results are what Betsy Robinson, writing for 'Spirituality and Health' magazine called "...waking dreams -- haunting, achingly familiar images evoking that which can be felt but never spoken."

To test the Personal Energy Card in exchange for their testimonial.

How the Personal Energy Card Works
The homeopathic energies used in the Personal Energy Card have been
energetically duplicated from remedies successfully used over many years by a practicing Australian homeopath. After 35 years of work in classical
homeopathy, electrodermal medicine and electrical engineering, Ross Martin
of Perth, Australia, has developed the Quantum NRG Bio-Imprinter.
The Quantum NRG Bio-Imprinter can be described as a receiver / transmitter
of frequencies. It is able to imprint Personal Energy Cards that emit
homeopathic energetic frequencies to the individuals who carry them.
The Personal Energy Card looks much like your everyday credit card -
including the magnetic strip on the back. However, unlike a credit card
which emits negative energy, the Personal Energy Card emits positive
balancing energy. The most exciting aspect of the Personal Energy Cards is
that they can be individually programmed to suit each user's personal
health needs.

The Personal Energy Card works by emitting a constant subtle
energy/frequency that gives continued potential to the body. The card emits this frequency at a radius of up to 1.5 meters (about five feet) 24 hours a day.

The best results will be achieved by carrying the Personal Energy Card with you at all times, and by placing it on a bedside table close to your bed while you sleep.

No Kids Allowed! New Angle for Martial Arts School

posted: November 11, 2009, 07:27 AM

Replyclick here

Castle Rock AIKIDO is a martial arts school unlike many others in that their program is reserved exclusively for adults. That's right! No Kids Allowed! This martial arts school has identified a growing demographic of adults who are specifically looking for adult only martial arts programs. These people want to be able to completely and totally focus on themselves for just a few hours each week - a place where they can get away from the overwhelming responsibilities of work, home, and child raising for just a little while. Castle Rock AIKIDO provides just that.

At this school, adults have the opportunity to socialize exclusively with other adults, to de-stress, to physically reconnect with themselves, and get centered psychologically. In fact, it is not uncommon for parents and couples to train Aikido together where they can reconnect with each other, as adults, and step outside their non-stop roles of Mom and Dad. The philosophically non-violent martial art of Aikido also serves as a great new activity for recent empty-nesters or divorcees who may be struggling to some extent with their identity and newfound position in the world.

"We love kids," says Sean, the owner of this highly-specialized martial arts school, "but for our program, you must be over eighteen and we are quite strict about that policy. We have to be. For every child we might allow into the program, we would stand to lose several adults students who specifically train with us for our unique, adult-only atmosphere."

Since winning the 2007 "Best of Castle Rock" designation for martial arts by Castle Rock Magazine, Castle Rock AIKIDO has continued to grow, attracting students from as far north as Boulder and as far south as Fort Garland, Colorado, which is west of Pueblo. This came as quite a surprise to them. After investigating this interesting phenomenon, they quickly discovered why they had an affinity for attracting students willing to drive significant distances to come train in Castle Rock. "It isn't just because of the amazing quality of our Japan-trained instructors," boasts Sean. "We ask every single person who walks through our doors what made them select us when there are so many others closer to where they live? One particular answer kept coming up: they really liked the fact that we are for adults only."

It has become increasingly clear to Castle Rock AIKIDO that there exists a distinct impression that the martial arts industry has, in their words, been more or less "hijacked" by the day care industry. It has become less about serious physical training and more about babysitting in flashy, colorful pajamas. In some respects, it has become a part-time, surrogate parenting program. Not that there is anything wrong with such. These programs for children are fantastic and are very much needed today. However, this trend appears to have created a negative side effect: it has alienated those adults who take their continued personal growth in the martial arts more seriously and don't like seeing their passion for martial arts caricaturized and commercialized. Castle Rock AIKIDO is now serving the needs of this neglected, abandoned market.

"In my opinion," says an instructor at Castle Rock AIKIDO, "the martial arts industry has become so kid-focused that many adults are almost embarrassed to participate in martial arts programs beyond their youth. This is incredibly unfortunate considering the tremendous health, fitness, social, and, of course, self-defense benefits martial arts has to offer adults." Castle Rock AIKIDO is committed to changing this distorted perception.

Lots of martial arts programs claim to have adult classes. But according to Castle Rock AIKIDO, the actual definition of an "adult" is often very loose in some schools. For example, it's not uncommon for some schools to consider 14-year olds an "adult." But, the truth is that most 41-year olds don't like being in a martial arts class with 14-year olds. At Castle Rock AIKIDO, an adult class is an adult class. Period. Most of their students are between 25-55 years old and the oldest student they've had, so far, is now seventy. Aikido is one of the few martial arts that doesn't discriminate against its practitioners as they age.

"To our knowledge, we may be the only martial arts program exclusively for adults in Douglas County," says Hannon. "We are very proud of that distinction and that is what our students want - a kid-free zone."

You can visit their web site: www.CRaikido.com or call them at 720-221-3665 for more information and to receive a coupon for a FREE class.
