December 3 - 20, 2009
First Friday Artwalk: Friday, December 4, 6 - 9 p.m. Opening Reception: Friday, December 11, 6 - 9 p.m. CORE Main Gallery: Terri Bell, Melissa Rackliff, and Katie Hoffman Terri Bell - "Composite - new work" I am interested in challenging preconceptions about photography through the creative post-production of photographic images. I also use my photos and photographic segments in digital collage and mixed media works. The process can then be taken in a number of directions: for instance, rephotographing the resulting works and using those to create entirely new pieces; or assembling smaller works as transitional "metaworks" -- thus moving ever further from any photographic essence into new areas of post-production. I fragment photographic images, then recombine them with other media to create unique statements. The resulting pieces are neither figurative nor abstract, but contain elements of both. The present series, "composite," includes mixed media/collage works, as well as framed prints. Melissa Rackliff - "GestureLove" This body of small works, GestureLove, is a bit of a departure from previous larger pieces. The focus here is the initial gestures themselves rather than the refinement of those gestures. Previously my initial gestures were simply a foundation for the layers of color & texture to come, instead in this body I wanted to enhance the visual impact of the original gestures with translucent layers of pigment & spots of texture allowing the intrinsic energy to translate directly to the viewer primarily unchanged. Of particular interest to me is the impact a single, simple gesture can communicate. How a line seen translates in the mind as the memory of some body language or sound; and how each viewer is affected differently depending on what they carry, what they have seen and lived. These creations are in part a journey down a path back to my years as a dancer. Dance is fleeting. Movements made remain in the space & time in which we create them. In performance you can add light, color & texture to enhance the viewers experience, but the dance itself is bound by the dancer's passage through time and space & cannot be refined or changed once the motion is complete. This truthfulness; this fleeting sensation is what I hope to bring to the viewer with these works. Katie Hoffman - "Lullabies for Lunatics" Katie Hoffman's recent paintings take their subject matter from her preoccupation with metaphor, symbolism, and what lays beneath the surface of consciousness. Built up with tissue-thin layer upon layer of oil paint in a largely intuitive manner, the finished results are what Betsy Robinson, writing for 'Spirituality and Health' magazine called "...waking dreams -- haunting, achingly familiar images evoking that which can be felt but never spoken." Advanced Flash Photography
Zachary Singer Building on the fundamentals learned in Flash I, this class explores the vast possibilities in mixing the light from a portable, “hot-shoe mount” strobe with a second (or third) light source (additional portable strobe units or ambient lighting). We’ll also get into light modifiers like umbrellas and colored gels, and investigate the myriad options for synchronizing multiple flash units. Our focus is on lightweight systems that (apart from an umbrella) can be carried in your camera bag. NOTE: To take this class, you should be familiar with the relationships between f/stop, shutter speed and ISO for setting ambient (non-flash) exposures. Advanced Flash Photography Saturday, 12/05 / 10a to 4p with Zachery Singer $125 This class, a continuation of Flash Photography I, will build on the fundamentals already learned. We will explore ways of supplementing the hot shoe "strobe", as well as light modifiers. This is an exciting class that will enhance your photography. • Location: Lakewood

Description:
Learn more about your camera and photography from a long time travel photographer. Whether you are just starting out in photography, a long time devotee of the this visual art or someone that is converting from traditional film based photography to digital capture, I can offer you help in attaining your photographic goals. If you'd like some tutoring on your camera controls or want to brush up on your composition or exposure I can help you. I can also decipher camera manuals, explain camera controls, clear up foggy technical understanding and improve your compositional eye. I have 10 + years of experience teaching photography to adults and kids and 30+ years in the photography business. I have gone back to doing more travel assignments so my schedule does not allow me to continue teaching in a college and adult education environment but have time between travels to do direct one on one instruction. I enjoy helping others realize their aspirations in photography and creative pursuits. Photography makes a wonderful regular occupational pursuit for those in need of this type of therapy. I have instructed occupational therapy photography for those recovering from head injuries, learning disabilities, mental health issues, and those needing functional reattachment to life therapy. I can set up a series of 2-3 hours sessions or half and full day workshop style instruction. Field trips and travel workshops are also a possibility. Denver Pictures with Santa Claus, Day Care etc. (Denver Metroplex)
We are very interested in providing Santa services at day care centers, preschools, private schools stc. We have two programs that we offer. One is our photography program that allows parents to purchase photographs of their child with Santa Claus. The selling points on Photos with Santa are: 1) All children in the day care visit with Santa. 2) All children receive a "Keep on being good, love Santa" card, a stamp placing the child on the NICE LIST, and a candy cane. Santa entertains with stories about the North Pole. 3) The children are entertained that day. 4) Parents will not have to stand in line at the mall in order to get their photograph with Santa Claus. 5) Parents just drop their child off at Daycare with a pre-ordered print package and then they pick up their photos in approx. a week after our visit. 6) With the minimum amount of sales met for print packages the Santa Experience doesn't cost the center a dime! We have a minimum gurantee of 30 print package orders of $25 a piece. With this minimum there is no separate appearance charge for Santa Claus. A photo will be taken of every child with Santa Claus if the minimum purchase order of $750 is met then there is no charge to the center. If the minimum is not met in the pre-orders then the center pays the difference in packages not purchased. We will also put the images on a password protected website after the first order for reorders. If 50 orders are received from the daytime appearance, then Santa will also make an evening appearnce at the center's holiday program for an addtional $100. The second program is the Santa Experience, a one hour visit with Santa Claus for only $150. All children receive a "Keep on being good, love Santa" card, a stamp placing the child on the NICE LIST, and a candy cane. Santa entertains with stories about the North Pole. The evening option is $225 for an hour Santa Claus Experience. Evenings are the most requested time with Santa and thus the reasoning for the higher charge. Parents take their own pictures. Santa John has portayed Santa for over 30 years. He is Channel 7's A LIST Santa. the link is http://kmgh.cityvoter.com/santa-claus-and-company/biz/150501. We came in 2nd this year on their A LIST compettion in the Best Theatre Group" category. Please contact us with any questions you may have or to book us as Santa's calendar does fill up fast.
