Take one down and help support the programs of Access Gallery.
Annual fundraiser 99 Pieces of Art on the Wall is September 21.

VSA Colorado/Access Gallery is proud to announce their annual fundraising event, 99 Pieces of Art on the Wall. This popular event features 99 works of art by local and national artists who were each provided with a 10 x 10 square particle-board canvas on which to convey their unique artistic expression. For a $9.99 admission fee, the public is invited to view and purchase art at the event on Third Friday, September 21, 2012 from 6–9 PM at 909 Santa Fe Drive. Patrons will have the option to purchase and carry the piece immediately, no bid sheets, no auctioneers, just a great selection of affordable, accessible, eye-popping art!

Proceeds from the sale of the pieces will go directly to benefit the programs of VSA which serve to engage the community by opening doors to creative and educational opportunities for people with disabilities to access and experience the arts. Works not sold on the evening of the event will be shown through First Friday October 5, 2012.

Twenty of the pieces in the show were created by artists with disabilities such as Alonzo Clemons, Uzi Buzgalo, Javier Flores, DC artist Matt Sesow, comedian Josh Blue and New York artist Jimmy Mirikitani. This serves to represent the roughly 20 percent of people in the U.S. with disabilities. Other artists contributing works have some connection to VSA, having worked as a volunteer or teacher, or are otherwise notable for the importance of their work, including Phil Bender, Kym Bloom, John Fielder, Carlos Fresquez, Carlos-Michael Finn, Homare Ikeda, and Rik Sargent. Also participating is local celebrity and 9news entertainment reporter Kirk Montgomery. Since most pieces are priced between $50 and $300 this is a rare opportunity for anyone to access original, affordable, art by well-known and emerging artists.

This event is also a great occasion for visitors to meet youth participants in the VSA programs, learn about the new corporate art program and purchase works from the fun-to-look-at and fun-to-use Art-o-Mat, a cigarette machine converted into a dispenser of $5 miniature works of art.

Access Gallery would like to thank their generous sponsors, Urban Chef and Odell’s Brewery for providing refreshments as well as Diaz Group, Dynamic Buna and Unique Litho for their assistance in putting on this event.
