Architecturally inspired works featured at Niza Knoll Gallery
“Heavy Dress” by Tim Flynn and Gayla Lemke runs November 16-December 22, 2012
“Heavy Dress” is a two-person exhibition by Tim Flynn and Gayla Lemke that showcases three-dimensional mixed media works inspired and informed by patterns and elements found in architecture. The show runs November 16-December 22 at Niza Knoll Gallery, 915 Santa Fe Drive. The exhibit transforms the gallery space into a fresh environment that allows visitors to explore and discover each new piece. The public is invited to view and purchase work during regular hours and during the following special events:
Opening and Artists Reception - Friday, November 16, 5-8 pm
First Friday Art Walk - December 7, 5-9 pm
Artists Talk and Demonstration - Saturday, December 8 fro 2-4 pm
Closing Reception - Third Friday, December 21, 5-8 pm
For many years Flynn has been studying architecture and collecting building toys. Through experiments with these toys, found objects, origami, weaving and knotting techniques, and wire sculpture, he has created sculptural objects that are reminiscent of architectural elements.
Lemke has periodically incorporated the building or house as an element of her work. Her approach to the theme of this exhibition has been more abstract—applying the concept of structure to create towers, tile pieces and repeated forms heavily carved with geometric and organic patterns.
Gallery owner and multi-disciplinary artist Niza Knoll received her formal training in painting and graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Before becoming a full-time visual artist she had two rewarding careers as a graphic designer and a teacher of painting and photography. Niza Knoll Gallery opened in April 2010 and welcomes artists to show their portfolio. The gallery hours are Wednesday-Saturday1-5 pm, First and Third Friday 3-8 pm. The Mix Co-op in the back of the gallery is also open for visitors during regular hours.
