Denver Modernism Show features new guests and exhibitors Aug. 23 - 25

New guests and exhibitors are a highlight at the 8th annual Denver Modernism Show returning August 23 - 25 at the National Western Complex Expo Hall. Over 100 booths of vintage and contemporary modern design, home decor and art draw thousands of attendees to Denver each year. The event attracts buyers, sellers and modernism fans from across the US.

"Our exhibitor list is expanded, and really exciting this year," says show organizer Dana Cain. "We've got two new vendors coming down from Wyoming with amazing stuff; the Halliburton Collection coming up from Texas; some really cool new booths coming in from Oklahoma, and lots of new exhibitors from right here in Colorado .... some that are showing their stuff for the first time, and others, like Design Within Reach, that are well-established, but new to the show."

This year's special guest is fashion designer Mondo Guerra, winner of Project Runway All-Stars. He will joining the panel of judges for the Miss Modernism Pageant on Friday evening, after his presentation, "Mid-Mod to Mondo: Mondo Guerra's mid-century style influences." (6:00pm) Mondo will also use his keen designer eye to judge the Motorama Car Show on Sunday. In keeping with this year's nod to fashon design, Ms. Retro, Alisa Reynolds, hosts a mid-century fashion show at 11:00 am Saturday.

Chris Parente, Entertainment host for two Denver TV stations ( Fox and Channel 2) makes his debut at the Denver Modernism Show as host of the Miss Modernism Pageant Friday night at 7:00 pm. Joel Haertling, son of legendary modernist architect Charles Haertling, will give a talk on his father's work, "Cantenary Roof; Convex Dome," at 3:00pm Sunday, followed by a 4:00 pm tour to one of Haertling's most stunning church designs in Northglenn. Boyd Rice is also on the guest speaker docket, with "When Sin Was Fun: the Devil on Madison Avenue," a Saturday afternoon slide show covering images of the devil in mid-century advertising.

This year's band line-up includes the B.Sous (Friday 8:00 - 10:00 pm) and The Cruisin' Cats (Saturday 4:00 - 6:00pm). All performances and events at the show are included with the admission price.

On Sunday, the post-atomic cars roll in! Denver Modernism's Motorama Car Show, hosted by the Sunday Afternoon Car Klub, is adding an exciting new feature this year - The Motorama Drive-In, with a big screen showing vintage car ads, short features and movie trailers all day! The Motorama Car Show features free car entry, and a plethora of category prizes and ribbons, leading up to the $200 cash prize for "BEST IN SHOW." The show features the best of mid-century auto design, from big fins to muscle cars and more, US and foreign-made.

This year's Tiki Lounge is now hosted by LUPEC (Ladies United fo rthe Preservation of Endangered Cocktails) and Michelle Baldwin's new event business, Frolic & Vamp. The Tiki Lounge is open all three days with tiki drinks, tiki vendors and more! And the juried Denver Modernism Art Gallery is up for all three days, with the Art Awards being presented Friday night at 8:30 pm. This year's juror is Adam Lerner, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art: Denver.

Tickets are $8 on Saturday and Sunday (includes admission to the post-atomic Car Show) and children under 12 are admitted free. Friday Preview Party tickets (6 - 10 pm) are $20 and include readmission all weekend. There are a limited number of VIP tickets for $50 each, that include entry at 4pm, weekend pass, VIP seating and free drinks Friday night.
